09/14-09/20

so i found the will's essay to be very condescending and i felt that he was talking down to me as the reader. i don't know how others react to this, but i have a hard time listening to or reading something when the speaker or author addresses me the same way they would a ten year old. also, he infers that the majority of americans are ignorant about these environmental issues and that we are following a trend or giving into a fad by trying to "go green."

i for one, would rather be safe then sorry, so if saving energy now (regardless of whether or not we're really in an energy crisis) means having enough in the future, then count me in. also, just because we have enough of something, doesn't mean we should be wasteful. my dad is always getting after me and my brother for leaving our lights on when we're not in our rooms even if we only left for a second.

09/07-09/13

My idea for the group social action project is basically coming up with someway to help get pets spayed/neutered. I have been a volunteer at the Sonoma County Animal Shelter for ten years and it's really sad when there are more animals than kennels. If more people were aware of this, I think they would spay or neuter their pets to try and prevent this from continuing to happen. So for the project, I would contact the volunteer coordinator at the shelter and see if I could help with their spay/neuter events and if there was anything extra I could do, like print flyers for the events and hand them out at several different places around the county. If you would also like to help with this project, please let me know.

08/31-09/06

so this weeks discussion was a little bit different from the others we've previously had. i felt that the issue of whether or not to kick the boy out of his english class was in more of a gray area where as the other issues were fairly black and white, and least for me. although in the end we did come to an agreement, i think that my group had differing opinions on this issue, and how to respond to it, where with the pornography discussion, everyone felt similiarly. luckily we haven't had anyone in our class act the way this boy did, but i do think it was important to put ourselves in the teacher's shoes and really think about how we would handle the situation.
